How Much Snow Thursday?
There is still a bit of icing across parts of the interior this evening with temperatures near or slightly below freezing in spots. Temperatures will tend to rise overnight as a low pressure center moving out of MI, into Canada drags a warm front up from the south & west. There will be a lingering shower or two and areas of drizzle & fog overnight. Grey, damp conditions Wednesday morning will give way to partly sunny skies by Wednesday afternoon, after the trailing cold front (now in the mid-west) passes through around midday, clearing out the low level moisture. Before the colder air gets established Wednesday night, temperatures will pop into the 50's Wednesday afternoon (sweet!). A punchy, low pressure center will develop over the mid-Atlantic states by Wednesday night and pass out to our south & east during Thursday. At this time it looks like this system will bring a general 6"-12" snowfall to most of our region. Current timing has the snow beginning during the morning commute Thursday, with most of the accumulation on the ground by mid-afternoon Thursday, but some lingering snow showers/flurries into Thursday night. The wind will pick up out of the north Thursday. Temperatures will drop into the 20's-low 30's Wednesday night and probably drop a bit more during the day Thursday. Thursday night won't be pleasant, with fresh snow cover, windy & cold conditions and lows in the teens, plus some blowing & drifting snow to boot!
