Tuesday's Morning Commute
(Image above is high resolution NAM forecast precipitation type & pressure for 9 AM Tuesday. Click to enlarge.)
Some places get a snow flurry this morning, otherwise we will see developing sunshine today with highs in the upper 30's-low 40's. There are icy patches out there this morning from refrozen snow melt. Clouds will increase tonight. An area of low pressure will track from Ohio up into northern NY and New England. This track will draw milder air into our region during Tuesday, however there will be some mixed precipitation during the transition Tuesday morning. I expect to see some light snow, rain & freezing rain showers develop toward daybreak Tuesday. I do not expect much snow accumulation in CT or points south - maybe a coating in the northern hills. I'd be more concerned with the potential for freezing rain showers, which would produce a thin layer of ice where they occur. Toward the coast most of the precipitation will probably be plain rain, perhaps after some brief, light frozen precipitation. Low temperatures tonight will be in the 20's inland to around 30 at the shore, however the temperature will tend to rise a bit toward daybreak. Milder air will move in during Tuesday, sending highs into the 40's, with low 50's across southeastern CT, parts of Long Island, RI, and southeastern MA. An arctic cold front will move in Tuesday night. As a result it will turn windy and much colder with some flurries and snow showers around, and the chance for a snow squall in parts of the area. This could produce a coating to an inch or so of snow accumulation in places. I think there will be more snow accumulation Tuesday night than there will be Tuesday morning. Lows will drop into the 20's. Wednesday will be very windy & cold with varying amounts of clouds & sun, and the chance for a flurry. High temperatures will average 30-35 degrees, however northwest winds at 15-30 mph with gusts to 50 mph will make it feel like it's in the teens at times.
