Slick Spots For The Friday AM Commute

Above: Hi-res NAM forecast for 5 AM Friday. (Click to enlarge).

Rain will develop tonight and change to snow after an Arctic cold front arrives. The changeover will occur after midnight, except across the northwest hills of CT, where it will could be earlier. The accumulating snow will exit the state by 7:00 AM-7:30 AM based on the current timing. Snow accumulations will be between a coating and 2" except across the northwest & northeast hills of CT, where there could be up to 3"-4" or so. Similar higher amounts can also occur across the higher elevations of MA. Temperatures will drop into and through the 20's behind the Arctic front causing any water on the ground (from the rain) to turn to ice. The result is likely to be slick spots for the morning commute tomorrow. The sky will clear Friday and the northwest wind will become gusty (15-30 mph+) as temperatures continue to drop. Lows will fall into the single numbers & low teens late Friday night with subzero wind-chills. Mixed sun & clouds Saturday with highs in the 20's.
