A Nuisance, A Weekend Storm, & Some Brutal Cold

1) Timing on Thursday night's/Friday's event remains the same. Light snow develops across CT late Thursday night - mainly after midnight and tapers off from west to east during Friday morning, ending in all areas by lunchtime. Slightly less moisture showing in latest model runs, so accumulations of an inch or two most likely. Should be mostly or all snow, however some mixing with rain before ending possible near New London County shoreline.

2) Significant storm likely Saturday night through Sunday. Latest probabilities favor Snow developing Saturday night (probably before midnight), accumulating 2"-6" (highest across parts of northern CT), with higher amounts possible in some of the northwest hills, then changing to freezing rain & sleet by Sunday morning. Depending on the precise track of the surface low, some areas could change to plain rain, however it looks unlikely that everyone will, as temperatures will have trouble reaching 32 - at least across parts of interior CT. Plenty of moisture with this storm, so the threat of freezing rain creating problems in some areas Sunday exists. Portions of New England just north of the snow/mix line could see 15"-20" of snow from this storm and that line may be located near the CT/MA line, so exact storm track and placement of this boundary will be critical!

3) Brutal, Arctic air will be pulled down behind this storm, which could switch precipitation in areas that go to a mix or rain back to light snow before ending and cause any wet surfaces to turn icy Sunday afternoon/evening. Temperatures may have trouble reaching 10 degrees in parts of the state Monday, with a gusty wind to boot, and wind chills well below 0 Sunday night & Monday.
