A Touch of Snow Late Tonight

After seeing temperatures 20 degrees above average on New Year's Day, conditions will be much more in line with seasonal averages today. Expect partly sunny skies, fairly light wind, and highs in the 30's (BDL average high is 35). As a mid-level disturbance (a.k.a. "short-wave") approaches from the west overnight and a weak, surface low moves up to our south, we will likely see some areas of light snow and snow showers develop late tonight - mainly after midnight. With lows in the 20's tonight, there may be enough moisture to produce a coating of snow by early Thursday morning - say between a dusting and an inch or so. There's also a reasonable chance that there could be little to no accumulation in some areas and as much as 2" in others. As the temperature rises above freezing Thursday morning, some areas will change to light rain or rain showers. Best chance for this would be south of I-84, however some mixing is possible, even in northern CT, before the precipitation ends. Should become partly sunny by Thursday afternoon, with highs in the low-mid 40's, so any snow that sticks will probably be gone before the end of the day.
