Big Problems Shaping Up For The Weekend
Areas of light snow develop toward and after midnight tonight. Snow will accumulate between a coating and an inch or two just in time for the Friday morning commute.
Snow develops Saturday night (anytime after 6 PM). Snow will become moderate to heavy late Saturday night before changing to sleet & freezing rain. Across interior Connecticut 6"-12" of snow accumulates followed by a period of significant icing in some areas due to freezing rain Sunday. Snow amounts & icing may be less toward the coast, where a change to plain rain could occur Sunday. Precipitation will tend to switch back to light snow in all areas during Sunday afternoon & evening. Locations north & west of Chicopee Falls, Mass. remain mostly snow, with 20" of snow possible.
Frigid, Arctic air & strong, gusty wind Sunday night & Monday will drop temps to near 0 by early Monday morning and wind chills of -20. High temps across part of the interior Monday could have trouble reaching 10 degrees!
The potential exists for power outages in areas where significant icing occurs Sunday once the gusty wind develops. This means some people might have no power/heat for several hours Sunday night/Monday as temperatures are plunging toward 0.
