Updated Snow Forecast

The forecast remains pretty much on track from yesterday, however based on the latest sets of model guidance I am increasing forecast snow amounts a little. It looks like snow will spread across the region between 4 AM-7 AM (could be a little earlier if you're far enough west of the Hudson Valley in NY/northern NJ and could be a little later in parts of eastern MA). On Cape Cod there could briefly be some light rain at first (before the heavy snow kicks in). The snow will become moderate to heavy across the area Thursday morning. A number of places could see a foot of snow accumulate in a 6 hour period Thursday. Most of the accumulating snow should wind down by mid-afternoon. Could see some clearing (especially in western portions of the region) before sunset. An increasing north wind will pick up to 12-25 mph during the day, with higher gusts. Winds will be stronger across Suffolk County, Long Island, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket, where a Blizzard Warning is in effect for Thursday. (Blizzard conditions are 3 consecutive hours of visibility reduced to 1/4 mile or less due to falling and/or blowing snow and wind speeds sustained at, or frequently gusting to 35 mph). After a mild day today, temperatures will drop into the 20's later tonight and continue to drop during Thursday, reaching the teens in northern portions of the region. Lows fall into the single numbers & teens Thursday night with wind-chills dropping to 0 to -10 in many areas (-15 northern hills). Blowing & drifting snow will be an issue Thursday & Thursday night. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect Thursday across the region, except where the Blizzard Warnings are in effect. This will be a fast moving, high-impact, punchy little storm.
